Meet Our Staff

    William B. Hirchert, CGCS
    Director of Agronomy
      Kansas State University, B.S.

Bill joined the Colleton River turf team in May 2006.

Bill’s desire to work in the golf industry originated when he was 12 while “fore caddying” at a small golf course in Edmond, Oklahoma.    It was at Tomahawk Hills that he was introduced to the golf maintenance aspect of the game, at age 16.  His parents had since relocated to Shawnee, Kansas.  It was then that he developed his love for golf course maintenance and made a career decision to pursue it.  He enrolled in the Agronomy program specializing in Turfgrass Management at Kansas State University.  He spent two summers working at Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club (his parents had since moved to Virginia), where he met his wife, Jane.  During his third year of college, he interned at Atlanta National Golf Club.  He gained a great appreciation for the dedication and expertise necessary to be a skilled superintendent in the south.

Following his graduation, Bill accepted a position as the Assistant Superintendent at Settindown Creek Golf Club and contributed to the success of both 1995 and ‘96 Nike Tour Championships.  Bill went on to becoming a Superintendent at Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham, Alabama where he oversaw a full reconstruction of a 1906 golf course.   Working for a management company (Honours Golf) enabled him to sharpen his abilities and prepare for yet another opportunity, Druid Hills Golf Club.  He was hired to oversee the renovation  of the entire golf course which was built in 1912.  He hosted several amateur events including the 2004 and 2005 Dogwood     Invitationals.

Bill’s passion is to provide a special experience for our Members and guests and help Colleton River become one of the premier properties not only in the Lowcountry, but in the nation.

Bill is married to Jane and lives in Hilton Head Island, SC.  They have three children, Morgan, Isaac and Maddox and a German Shorthair dog, Hanna.  He enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.   He truly enjoys what he does for a living and feels he’s where he should be.
